Capricorn Region | Places to Visit

Sitting halfway along the Queensland coast between Brisbane and Tropical North Queensland, the Capricorn region has a number of bucket list experiences you must tick off your list!
  • Dive, snorkel or sail the pristine waters of the Southern Great Barrier Reef or one of the 18 islands among the Keppel Island Group.
  • Visit Australia’s Beef Capital, Rockhampton and tuck into a perfect steak at one of the city’s grand old pubs. Or, head south to visit the old gold rush capital, Mount Morgan with many beautifully preserved 19th century artefacts.
  • Head west to Rubyvale and venture underground to see for yourself how sapphire mining is done at the largest sapphire fields in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Capricorn’s wilderness areas offer remarkable variety. Carnarvon National Park is home to 19,000 year old Aboriginal rock art set amidst the towering cliffs of the famous Carnarvon Gorge. The Central Highlands also offer some of the best freshwater fishing in the region.
