Sunshine Rebooted: The Final Bjelke-Petersen Cabinet Minutes

Runcorn, Brisbane Area

Free Entry

1987 began with the ‘Joh for PM’ campaign, but before the year was out Queensland’s longest-serving Premier had resigned and Tony Fitzgerald QC had been appointed to investigate allegations of corruption in Queensland’s Police Force.

Sunshine Rebooted is an exhibition presenting highlights from the 1987 Cabinet Minutes, and explores key decisions related to significant cultural and social issues impacting Queenslanders and how the ensuing events have shaped a more inclusive and progressive state. The exhibition will feature the experiences and recollections of individuals closely associated with key issues from 1987 - Mike Ahern AO, former Premier; Bill Rutkin, former President of the Queensland AIDS Council; Dr Aila Keto AO, environmental scientist; Dr John Willsteed, musician; and Chris Masters, the journalist whose ‘Moonlight State’ episode on ABC’s “Four Corners” program started a chain of events that changed Queensland’s political landscape.

Sunshine Rebooted opens at Queensland State Archives on 25 May until 16 November 2018.
