Do you have what it takes to be a pirate?

Get hands-on with pirate history at this Australian National Maritime Museum travelling exhibition based on the bestselling Horrible Histories series and developed in association with Scholastic UK.

Take command of a pirate ship, design and project your own pirate flag, try out different weapons from cutlasses to cannons, find your fate on the wheel of misfortune, discover the best loot to steal and splat rats in the quayside tavern.

Along the way, discover why the pirate women were just as wicked as the men and learn to talk the patter of a pirate. Learn about the ships they sailed on, the punishments they suffered and the rules they lived by.

The Museum of Tropical Queensland is the first venue in Queensland and only the third in Australia to host this travelling exhibition.

Magic Mountain Dive Site

Magic Mountain, a dive site on the Outer Gneerings Reef off Mooloolaba's coast, is a dive for more experienced divers due to its depth of 25 metres. The large group of outcrops extend from the sandy ocean floor to form numerous gullies, ravines, bommies, swim-throughs and pinnacles, all housing soft and hard coral colonies.

HMAS Brisbane Dive Site

Just a few kilometres from Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, HMAS Brisbane is a retired Royal Australian Navy guided missile destroyer that is now one of Australia’s top dive sites. The ship was scuttled in July 2005 - the 133 metre wreck is sitting upright on her keel, lodged in sand 27 metres below sea level.

Cotton Tree

Located right next door to trendy, bustling Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, Cotton Tree is fringed by the sandy banks of the Maroochy River to the north and the white silica beaches of the blue Pacific Ocean to the west.

Bli Bli

The name Bli Bli means 'many swamp oak trees'. While in Bli Bli be sure to take a cruise through the Maroochy Wet Lands Sanctuary, or walk the boardwalks through swamps and mangroves. Wheelchair access is provided via the boardwalk for part of the way.

Mount Coolum National Park

Mount Coolum's impressive dome dominates the skyline of the Sunshine Coast lowlands. Follow the rough, 800 metre track to the 208 metre summit of the mountain. Here you'll be surrounded by rare montane heath—one of only two places it grows on the Sunshine Coast.

Buddina is a thriving suburb of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. A notable feature of Buddina is the Kawana Shoppingworld shopping centre, which is one of the largest shopping centres on the Sunshine Coast and features over 100 stores.

Hanging Rock Dive Site

Hanging Rock is a popular reef dive off Mooloolaba, at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast. Located on the large Outer Gneerings Reef, Hanging Rock is similar to other sites in the area, with a network of rocky ridges and gutters covered in corals.

Barwon Banks Dive Site

Mooloolaba has many wonderful dive sites, but the most spectacular dive site on this part of the Sunshine Coast would have to be the Barwon Banks. Located 22 nautical miles offshore, conditions have to be perfect to visit this rocky reef that rises from 50 metres to 22 metres.

Marcoola Beach

Marcoola, Sunshine Coast Area
Marcoola Beach is located just north of Maroochy River and boasts quiet uncrowded beaches, which are best suited for serious surfers and walkers. Marcoola Beach is a great escape - unwind for a quiet barbecue or picnic with open grassy parkland, shady trees and children's park.
