The Oaks on Facing Island

The Oaks on Facing Island are pristine, relaxed, beachfront camping grounds, located on the north-west side of Facing Island, a short distance from the Ferry drop off point at Farmers Point.

There are 35 unpowered campsites on the Island, suited to self sufficient campers. Composting toilets are provided at the campgrounds. Campers should be aware that wood and charcoal fires are not permitted therefore you should bring gas or kerosene fuelled stoves. Generators are permitted to be used between 7am and 10pm on any day.

Bookings and permits are required and can be made online, or through the Gladstone Visitor Information Centre.

Curtis Ferry Services operates passenger and vehicle transfers to Facing Island five days a week.

Dogs are permitted on the Island, however they must be kept under control at all times.

Our Rooms

There are 35 unpowered beachfront campsites at The Oaks on Facing Island which are numbered and marked.

Wood and charcoal fires are not permitted on the Island and visitors should bring fuel/gas stoves for cooking. Generators are permitted, however it is required that campers are considerate of their neighbours and restrict use to between 7am and 10pm.

Composting toilets are located at the campgrounds for visitor use. Campers are permitted to bring their own chemical toilets for short term stays however there are no disposal units on the Island. Waste cannot be emptied into the composting toilets.

The Summer Solstice Light Spectacle, a dazzling light display, is a natural phenomenon unique in the southern hemisphere. It occurs throughout December and early January. Due to the alignment of the sun over the Tropic of Capricorn brilliant direct sun light penetrates the darkness of the Belfry Cave through a 14 metre vertical shaft in the cave roof at midday.
