Day Tripping

Right on Brisbane's doorstep is a wonderland of changing landscapes perfect for day trips from Brisbane or a quick weekend getaway. To the east, you have the aquatic playground of Moreton Bay and Islands brimming with wildlife and picturesque beaches. An hour west of Brisbane you can discover the World Heritage National Parks of the Scenic Rim and the lakes of the Somerset region.

  • Discover the bayside villages on the North and South Moreton Bay Tourist Drives were you can enjoy over 100km of coastline from Bribie Island through to Redland Bay.
  • Hop over to one of the Islands of Moreton Bay, Bribie Island, Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island are the largest and most popular destinations.
  • Get outdoors with a visit to Brisbane’s National Parks and hit the bushwalking trails of D’Aguilar National Park, Tamborine National Park or Main Range National Park for an energising daytrip filled with scenic lookouts, waterfalls and wildlife spotting.
  • An hour west of Brisbane, the Scenic Rim provides a retreat into a countryside landscape. Linking villages including Ipswich, Boonah and Beaudesert, with antique shops, arts and crafts, galleries and markets throughout the country-side.
  • Take a country drive and stop at a cellar door to taste the premium wines of the region – often accompanied by high quality local cheeses, olives, honey and other specialty produce.
  • For gorgeous scenery and watersports galore, the lakes and dams of Esk is the place for you. Esk is located in the middle of the Valley of the Lakes and is the gateway to Lake Wivenhoe, Somerset Dam and Atkinson Dam where you can set yourself up on the banks and relax as boats whiz past with wake boarders in tow.
  • Discover the rich history of the city of Ipswich at the Workshops Rail Museum, the home of rail in Queensland or at one of the historical buildings or churches.

Lytton

Deception Bay

It is called Deception Bay because when discovered by Lieutenant John Oxley in 1823, he thought the bay was a river because of its unusual shallowness.
