On 17 August 2016, Sunshine Coast’s sporting landscape changed forever with the announcement that the region’s first-ever national, professional side would be established as part of the newly formed Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) league. Sunshine Coast Lightning was born.

The unique joint venture between NRL Club, Melbourne Storm and University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) has reaped rewards as both groups have played critical roles in bringing to life Sunshine Coast Lightning Netball Club.

The side is already at the forefront of elite netball in Australia, as proven by its SSN premiership-winning performance in its inaugural season. Lightning defeated Sydney-based, GIANTS Netball 65-48 in the Grand Final to be crowned Australia’s top Club team.

The squad has four international representatives in Caitlin Bassett (Australia), Steph Wood (Australia), Geva Mentor (England) and Karla Mostert (South Africa) as well as a mix of athletes from around the country and New Zealand.

Lightning is looking to create history in 2018 and become the first Club to win back-to-back championships.

Be part of the action this season as they host seven home games at USC Stadium in their home town, the Sunshine Coast.
