Travelling with Pets

For some, a holiday isn’t the same unless you can take your whole family along for the journey, including those of the four-legged variety. And let's face it, even man's best friend deserves a break every once and a while.  We've done the digging for you and dug up a few pet-friendly holiday 'bones' that we are willing to share.

  • Then it’s time to walk the dog and maybe teach him a few tricks with a few pet-friendly activities that aren’t to be barked at, like hitting the beach, visiting a winery or learning to SUP (pooch included!).

Dog Friendly Beaches

Our furry four-legged friends get pretty excited about Queensland’s beaches. From Cairns to the Gold Coast, you can sniff out loads of dog beaches for your pups to dog paddle through the waves, explore the sand and of course to shake after they’re ready to head home. Our resident dog whisperer has discovered a few favourite dog beach spots.

  • The beaches at Yorkey’s Knob near Cairns, Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas and Hydeaway Bay in the Whitsundays keep the hounds busy with miles of room to run amok (while you unwind and take in the view). Bucasia Beach in Mackay is another good spot for puppies and their two-legged friends to get their beach-on.
  • Heading further south, the best spots to take your pooch are Sunshine Beach and Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast and Nudgee Beach in Brisbane.
  • If you’re Gold Coast bound, try Palm Beach and the Spit for your dog beach needs. Around these surfy hubs you’ll also find a few dog-friendly cafes. Keep an eye out for a water filled dog bowl out the front!

It’s important to check up on the dog rules for each beach and don’t forget dog beach etiquette (clean up after all of the fun!).
