Set in the heart of the Granite Belt near Stanthorpe, Amiens is a charming countryside locality that invites exploration beyond the main road. Travel west along Amiens Road and you will journey through a fascinating landscape shaped by post World War I soldier settlements, with evocative names like Fleurbaix, Bullecourt, Passchendaele, Bapaume, Messines, and Pozieres. Each name tells a story, adding depth and meaning to this scenic drive through rolling granite country.

The route is also a treat for wine lovers, with a collection of excellent wineries dotted along the way, perfect for relaxed tastings and long lunches with vineyard views.

Near Pozieres, follow the signs to Donnelly's Castle, a striking granite rock formation steeped in local legend. Once used as a hideout by the infamous bushranger Thunderbolt, the site now offers a memorable picnic spot with sweeping panoramic views across the Granite Belt. It is the perfect place to pause, unpack a picnic, and soak in the history and wide open landscapes that make this region so compelling.
