Moura is a central point and vibrant community for the people who serve its local industries – the farmers, growers and miners and their families that help to make Queensland great.
Lying in the heart of the Dawson Valley, not far from the Dawson River, its parklands and public facilities, festivals and events, river fishing, water sports and bird watching attract thousands of visitors each year.
The quality of life rings true in Moura – hard working people who know how to have fun at the end of the week make the most of their surroundings.
For almost six decades, coal mining has been pivotal to the town. A short drive from Moura provides travellers and locals with an incredible view of the Dawson mine, a large open-cut metallurgical and export thermal mine. The viewing platform is open every day.
You can almost set your watch by the 150th Meridian east marker; the intangible line that measures Eastern Standard Time. Located on the east side of town, two large, hollowed rocks sit side by side. Look through the holes and line them up, and you're standing in the direct path of the meridian.
The new state-of-the-art Moura Museum and Library is the pride of the Banana Shire. It brings together history, culture, education and Council services into a single facility. The museum is the star of this new facility, paying tribute to the town's rich history and culture. Located next to the Moura Miners Memorial, the museum features a series of rooms each dedicated to an important piece of Moura's past.
Moura hosts a range of exciting annual events for all ages. The Moura Coal & Country Festival in August - family fun with side show alley, market stalls, food vans, coal shoveling, mini excavator challenges, rodeo and bike night. The Moura Bronze Boots Campdraft in June is a thrilling showcase of local horsemanship and skill. The Moura Muddy Water Family Fishing Classic over Easter is a popular weekend fishing competition for anglers and campers featuring entertainment and evening gatherings with loads of prizes for junior and seniors.
