Bluewater Quay to Sandfly Creek Environmental Walkway

Begin your morning with a stroll along Mackay’s Bluewater Quay past an array of public sculptures. Continue toward the Sandfly Creek Environmental Walkway, where the mouth of the Pioneer River meets the Coral Sea. If your family enjoys fishing, there is a designated fishing platform on the Bluewater Trail to drop a line.

The Sandfly Creek Environmental Walkway will lead to Iluka Park, an all-abilities children’s playground. With disabled access and interactive play equipment for children. The park is located beside Town Beach.

The Sandfly Creek Environmental Walkway will lead past mangroves and grasses to Iluka Park, an all-abilities children's playground. With disabled access and interactive play equipment for children, the activities on offer incorporate a range of senses, including sound and touch. The park is located beside Town Beach.

A short 10 minute walk from Town Beach is Queens Park, with a range of playground activities and wide-open spaces to enjoy a family game of cricket. The cool oasis of large trees and tropical gardens provide plentiful shade for a picnic. Visit the enchanting Orchid House, with a colourful array of native, international and hybrid orchid varieties on display.

Escape the heat and prepare for fun in Mackay's Bluewater Lagoon, featuring three age-appropriate swimming pools, a waterslide park, restroom facilities and a cafe, it's a fun and refreshing haven on the waterfront!

If the kids aren't completely exhausted after this adventurous day, finish the evening with a meal in one of Mackay's family-friendly restaurants, followed by a performance at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre, or a movie at the local cinema.
