National Over 70's Cricket Championships

Veterans Cricket Australia (VCA) conducts The National Over 70's Cricket Championships annually in the states and territories of Australia and in 2018 Queensland's Sunshine Coast has been chosen to conduct this prestigious event. It will feature approximately 20 teams of Over 70's cricketers (250 players). Evidence indicates that they will be accompanied by some 120 to 150 partners. Total 370 to 400 approximate attendees who will travel to the event.

Most will require accommodation on in the Maroochydore to Mooloolaba area of the Coast for a minimum of one week. Evidence indicates 25 per cent stay on for additional time either prior to or just after the event.

The Championship features a welcome ceremony to be held at the Mooloolaba Bowls Club on September 12 followed by two days of Cricket on September 13 and 14, and a Dinner on September 14 for 370 people, then two rest days September 15 and 16, followed by two more days of cricket September17 and 18 and a closing barbecue and ceremony on September 18. The matches will be played at various Grade Cricket facilities at Noosa, Yandina, Maroochydore, Caloundra and Landsborough providing a financial boost to the local clubs in those centres.

The Seaway Dive Site

The Scottish Prince, 800 metres off the Gold Coast’s Southport Spit, features the wreck of a three steel-masted, 64 metre iron barque ship. The Scottish Prince sank as it was sailing from Glasgow, Scotland to Brisbane with a cargo of whiskey, mousetraps, linen and other assorted cargo, with only the hull of the ship remaining.

Gold Coast Oceanway

Jacobs Well
