The Mareeba Rodeo is one of Far North Queensland’s most iconic events, held annually in July at the renowned Kerribee Park. Since its inception in 1949, the Mareeba Rodeo has grown into a premier rodeo experience, attracting visitors from across Australia to witness thrilling rodeos, bull rides, barrel racing, and family-friendly entertainment.
Originally established to raise funds for local organisations, the event has evolved thanks to decades of hard work by dedicated committees and community members. In 1955, Mareeba hosted its first Australian Rodeo Championships, and by 1959, the beloved Rodeo Queen Competition was introduced, adding a touch of glamour to the adrenaline-fuelled festivities.
A major milestone came in 1979 when the event moved to Kerribee Park, transforming into a world-class rodeo complex with high-rise seating, modern stockyards, and state-of-the-art arena lighting. This relocation cemented Mareeba Rodeo’s reputation as a must-visit outback event, combining traditional rodeo sports, sideshow alley fun, and a vibrant community atmosphere.
As it celebrates over 75 years of history, the Mareeba Rodeo continues to be a highlight of the Australian rodeo calendar, offering non-stop action, cultural heritage, and unforgettable memories. Join us in July for a true outback Queensland rodeo experience that celebrates the spirit, tradition, and community pride of Mareeba.
