Araucaria Ecotours

Multiple Locations

Travel from Brisbane with wildlife experts for a day or several days with a zoologist or experienced naturalist, learning about Australia's fauna, flora and geological history. Visit rainforests, bushland, wetlands, quiet beaches, outback waterholes or other habitats, seeking kangaroos, koalas, platypus, birds, reptiles, frogs and other wildlife.

Beginners and avid birdwatchers alike enjoy birding day-tours with gentle walking and plenty of opportunity for photography in forest and wetland. A wildlife and forests day-tour shows you koalas, wild kangaroos, flying foxes (fruit bats), birds, glow worms, rainforests, eucalypt forests tea-tree wetlands and a waterfall all in one day. The three-day wildlife overview tour (choice of camping or guest house) introduces you to all major wildlife groups in Australia while visiting a variety of habitats and a wildlife park, and can be extended with an extra day or two for snorkelling, whale-watching (in season) and Aboriginal culture. Six or eight day outback tours are run on demand, usually twice a year (spring and autumn).

All ages and fitness levels are welcome on most tours. Customised tours are possible (usually for a minimum of four people): choose from primitive camping or any level of accommodation for overnight tours.

Other Information

Most tours involve only gentle walks, with option of more energetic hikes. When travelling with disabled or elderly guests in a mixed group, one guide waits with them at a scenic spot or conducts a shorter, gentler walk, while a second guide leads the more energetic members. A small collapsible wheelchair can be carried. Please advise before the tour if you have food restrictions: vegan, diabetic, allergies etc.

Children are very welcome on most tours, but must be quiet when watching for shy wildlife such as platypus. Some birding tours are not suitable for the very young. Please inform when booking if you would like your tour to be a child-free experience for that day. Special children's activity camps are held on some weekends. Children cost two thirds of the adult price on most standard tours.
