Journey into Australia's largest rainforest National Park with Reeforest Adventure Tours. Enjoy traditional Australia billy tea and damper. Reeforest Adventure Tours has operated in Mackay since 1986 and Col and Jenny Adamson have owned and operated the tour business from 1994. A variety of tours operate from Mackay and Airlie Beach to Eungella National Park, Mackay City, Cape Hillsborough National Park, Pioneer Valley, Nebo and the Mining Trail to the hinterland and the highly acclaimed Farleigh Sugar Mill Tour. Only two operate in Queensland as well as the new paddock to Port Cane farm tour during the crushing season. The coaches are safe, air-conditioned and vary from 14 to 46 seaters. Reeforest owns a bush camp in Finch Hatton Gorge called the "The Finch Hatton Hilton" where billy tea and damper are served as well as a barbecue lunch on their Platypus and Rainforest Eco Tour. All tours are laid back with time for photos, swimming, animal spotting and a full commentary on the history of the area as well as a few tall stories. Reeforest Adventure Tours also operate a variety of package holidays around Australia like Cape York, The Kimbleys, The Red Centre, Tasmania, Autumn In New England through the highlands of Northern New South Wales and The Gulf of Carpentaria and Arnhem Land.

Pioneer Valley, The

Call into Melba House, a historic house and accredited Visitor Information Centre situated on the banks of the Pioneer River, to discover the marital house of famous Australian opera singer Dame Nellie Melba. A trip to Finch Hatton Gorge is a must-do. Walk the well formed tracks to Araluen Cascades and the Wheel of Fire Waterfalls and swim in clear rock pools as water cascades from above. Melba House

Her soft brown eyes captured the hearts of men, her voice cast a magic spell on audiences in London, Paris and many other cities in Europe as well as the United States of America, the legendary diva Dame Nellie Melba. Few know that the acclaimed opera singer spent the first year of her married life in a small house right in the heart of the Pioneer Valley, in Marian. And the house where the diva with the golden voice lived, is now open to the public for free. It shows a beautiful array of photos, recordings, memorabilia, books and furniture of her time. All this has been lovingly reconstructed by members and supporters of the Pioneer Valley Tourism and Development Association. The 133 year old house was rescued from demolition by the Mirani Shire Council who relocated it from Marian Mill to a more prominent riverbank setting along the main Eungella Road in Edward Lloyd Park two kilometres from the heart of Marian and restored the run down building. The house boasts an arts and craft shop featuring an extensive array of locally handmade gifts and souvenirs and is home to the Pioneer Valley accredited Visitor Information Centre.

The Leap Hotel

Debbie's Seafood

Debbie and Mark are locals that supply fresh local seafood to the Mackay community with replenishing stocks, twice weekly. Debbie's Seafoods is based at a seafood shop of the same name in Slade Point, Mackay. Here the local daily fish catch is filleted, and the prawns and crabs are cooked and mussels marinated. The enterprise is probably best known however for the fleet of seafood trucks roaming the countryside from Mackay to Hay Point, Moranbah, Farleigh, Marian, Nebo, Sarina and Dysart. The Debbie's Seafood trucks have become iconic. They are part of the Mackay landscape. They have a cult following. When Mackay residents think local fish market, they think Debbie's Seafood! Debbie and Mark know they are in a fortunate place. They are proud of their hard work and what it has produced. They are thankful for their customers and their opportunities. Most of all, they love their seafood!!

Cane Cutter Memorial

A statue of a Cane Cutter, erected in 1994 as a memorial to the pioneering families of the Marian district, is situated in Edward Lloyd Park approximately 50 metres from Melba House. Plaques on the plinth list the names of the residents - those who settled the district prior to 1900 are on the front; the remaining three sides list those families which became residents since 1900. A grove of trees planted by the members of the pioneering families surrounds the memorial. During the Rugby League season the canecutter shows his support for the Maroons by dressing in the team colours and waving the Queensland flag. Behind the statue is a track down to the Pioneer River, where is it possible to swim or fish and maybe even spot a Platypus.
