Purling Brook Falls Circuit

Multiple Locations

This park has been impacted by recent severe weather events in Queensland. Please check park alerts for the latest information on access, closures and conditions.

The Purling Brook Falls circuit leaves the Gwongorella picnic area in world heritage listed Springbrook National Park and passes through open eucalypt forest of New England ash (Eucalyptus campanulata), before descending via a series of steps into the gorge to view the falls from below. A steady climb through forest brings you back to the picnic area via a lookout above the falls. See fire-adapted species such as lepidozamias, hakeas and various wildflowers growing in the open forest, while ferns and moisture-loving rainforest plants grow where it is shady. Water flowing over Purling Brook Falls is high quality because its catchment is protected in the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area.

Note: it is easier to walk the track in a clockwise direction. If including the Warringa Pool track, which leads downstream from the base of the falls, add another two kilometres and allow another 40 minutes to return. Admire buttress roots, epiphytes, and a grove of piccabeen palms.
