Northern Food Trail

Launch your regional food extravaganza from the Great Dividing Range in Toowoomba on a 457 kilometre Northern Food Trail circuit through the rich Darling Downs farming land.

Firstly head towards the rural townships of Oakey and Dalby and onto the Bunya Mountains markets to pick up some local bunya nut meal, used in carrot and bunya nut cake and even beef and bunya nut pies and burgers.

Further east, stop at the wafting smells of freshly roasted nuts from the peanut van in Kingaroy and sample their unique flavours, like the peanut prune salad and cherry and peanut cookies.

The South Burnett boutique wine region including nearby Goomeri and Nanango are home to both award winning white and red grape varieties and surrounded by olive groves, country gardens and farming land. Overnight in on-vineyard accommodation or rustic farm stay cottages before setting off to Maidenwell and the Highfields, with charming roadside produce stalls en route back to the 'Garden City' of Toowoomba.

Taabinga Homestead is part of the National Estate and is central to the history of the South Burnett. The homestead was built in 1846 and is one of Queensland's oldest, continuously lived in rural homes. Situated at Haly Creek near Kingaroy, Taabinga Homestead is a working cattle property. Accommodation at the Homestead is in fully equipped, self-contained cottages set amongst its gardens. Other outbuildings include the stables, a dairy, blacksmiths and butcher's shops.
