Rainforest Return - Green Mountains

Multiple Locations

This park has been impacted by recent severe weather events in Queensland. Please check park alerts for the latest information on access, closures and conditions.

This short walk in Lamington National Park (part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area) follows the Border Track from Green Mountains (O'Reilly's) through rainforest for 700 metres. The large boulders just past the track entrance are a good example of how exposed basalt eventually decomposes by a weathering process (exfoliation) into spherical boulder shapes. This walk offers excellent bird watching opportunities - watch for yellow-throated scrub wrens and log runners among the leaf litter.

Return the same way to the Green Mountains picnic area. The Border Track continues on towards Binna Burra.
