Airlie Beach Race Week, is renowned amongst sailors Australia wide as a vibrant, exciting, fun and well run event. It is now the largest keelboat regatta staged on Queensland's mainland coast, last year attracting an equal size fleet to the 2015 Sydney to Hobart (108 vessels). The event is focused on the relaxed atmosphere of the Whitsundays, mixing serious sailing with fun socialising.
On-water the Regatta offers classes from IRC competitive racing through to cruising divisions attracting around 1800 competitors, officials and volunteers. The event is now entrenched in the overall Australian Sailing calendar.
On-shore the Festival of Sailing, the Whitsunday Coasts' most significant public event, presents seven days and nights of high profile, social activities with attendances of over 5000 in 2015. In 2016 the On-shore Social Program was expanded to include eight nights of free live entertainers, wine tastings, a long late lunch on the lawn, an outrigger challenge and a festival fun run.
