Wowan is small rural township steeped in history and located approximately 70 kilometres north-west of Biloela in the Banana Shire.
Nestled amongst ancient gums and a myriad of creeks and gullies, the town was settled back in 1912; perched on the banks of Pocket Creek, Wowan is rich with native flora and fauna and is bordered by mountains to the south and west and offer visitors the chance to experience the friendly rural lifestyle that is 300 residents enjoy.
The local museum offers an impressive collection of relics, memorabilia and history of the early settlers in the surrounding area. Stop by for a picnic in the museum's park, set by a creek and under shady gum trees.
A visit to Wowan would not be complete without a visit to the very impressive, locally owned doll collection, which is open by appointment only - please contact the Biloela Visitor Information Centre for details.
For a small town, Wowan has plenty of facilities for travellers, including three churches, a caravan park, hotel, fuel and groceries and a public multi-purpose centre.
