Snorkel for Seagrass

Brisbane City, Brisbane Area
13 – 19 March 2016
Sail and snorkel through the crystal clear waters of Moreton Bay to help scientists uncover how Brisbane boom is impacting the marine ecosystem. Moreton Bay is an iconic marine ecosystem, home to dugongs, loggerhead turtles, dolphins and many other species. Pollutants enter the bay from rural and urban sources via the Brisbane River, through dredging and increased shipping traffic. These activities decrease water quality, which in turn threatens the seagrass and macro invertebrates, resulting in a decreased food supply for dugongs, turtles and fish. On Snorkel for Queensland's Marine Mammals, you will be helping scientists collect ecological data on the extent and composition of sediment, seagrass and macro invertebrates in the bay to determine how humans and climate change are impacting these ecosystems. Join the team today!
