Royal Queensland Show (Ekka)

The Royal Queensland Show, or Ekka as it's most commonly known, is Queensland's largest annual event. Held over ten full days, Ekka showcases life and achievements in the Sunshine State, bringing visitors from all across Queensland and Australia to the heart of Brisbane. Ekka began in 1876, attracting 17,000 visitors to the grounds and is now Queensland's most celebrated event with an average attendance of 400,000 visitors annually. 2017 marks the 140th show and brings with it a variety of talent, culture, produce, fun and entertainment.

An inquisitive group exhibition exploring the concept vintage, this theme-specific group exhibition is made up of six female artists (Chantel Schott, Corrina McLaughlin, Hayley Groves George, OmiLee, Rochelle Blakelock and Susie Lewis) exploring their relationships with times and places from the past, deciphering through personal discoveries including how to make something old new again and toying around with the question “is vintage an antiquated notion?” It comprises a number of sculptural and theme-specific photographs as well as small and large scale meticulous drawings and linocut prints, not to mention expressive paintings on both canvas and timber panels, showcasing an all-embracing exhibition to energize and awaken those notions. Official opening, Saturday, 24 September at 4:30pm, refreshments will be served and all are welcome. Market day, including workshops, and live demonstrations, Saturday, 8 October from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
