The only sidecar series run on the East Coast of Australia hits the showgrounds in Bowen. In the 2015 series over 70 speedway sidecars competed, including three New Zealand teams, plus sidecars from South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and NSW. Add the classic sidecars and junior sidecars to that mix, and it was quite a spectacular bonanza of sidecar action for the excited spectators, over those four rounds! The 2016 series will involve 'double headers' at each round to suit the New Zealand teams that have again committed to competing in all rounds of the 2016 series, including the current New Zealand Champions, and in doing so will generate exposure for this great sport, and the beautiful Bowen across the ditch in New Zealand. All the speed and excitement of Speedway right here in Bowen.

In 2016, for the third consecutive year, Bowen Tourism and Business will host a round of the Australian Offshore Superboat Championships. After the success of the previous two groups, the local community is very excited that the boats are back! Each year, the Bowen Superboats put the spotlight on Edgecumbe Bay, the Bowen Marina and Foreshore area. It is the largest on water event in Bowen, and is free for the community to attend. Upwards of 15 boats compete and reach speeds in excess of 200 kilometres per hour. The teams bring with them a cast of hundreds - from pit crews to family, friends and loyal supporters- all with a need for speed and all keen to soak up the best the region has to offer. The Bowen Offshore Superboats are hosted by Bowen Tourism and Business and Offshore Superboats Australia and are proudly supported by the Whitsunday Regional Council.
