Yungaburra, Tablelands Area

Indicative Rate * AU$285 to AU$349

Mt Quincan Crater Retreat is ideally situated in the heart of the Cairns hinterland on the Atherton Tablelands. The Retreat is centrally located to the lakes, waterfalls and many other natural attractions this beautiful area offers. The Retreat is just 60 minutes from Cairns, the gateway to The Great Barrier Reef.

Five minutes from the heritage village of Yungaburra, the Retreat offers luxurious, architecturally designed pole tree houses for couples, nestled amongst some of Far North Queensland's most breathtaking scenery.

Each of the six tree houses is completely separate, secluded and private. Each tree house is strategically tucked away on the rainforest slopes of Mt Quincan's extinct volcanic crater so as to maximise panoramic views of the Tablelands or unique views into the crater itself.

The 57 hectare property is registered with 'Land for Wildlife' and has been selected for a case study project with the local Tree Kangaroo and Mammal Group. Mt Quincan is home to the rare tree climbing kangaroo and a large variety of other animals. It is a birdwatcher's paradise.

A walk down and around the unique Mt Quincan crater wetlands is also a must.

Every year, large flocks of stately grey birds gather on the Atherton Tablelands for the winter. Cranes are the subject of myth and legend around the world, they are immortalised in art and photography and are woven into the fabric of ancient cultures. They leap and dance, they bugle and call and they enrich lives. It's crane season on the Tablelands! If you live on the Tablelands, it's not hard to spot the cranes, feeding in farmers' paddocks during the day, and flying in v formation every evening across the winter sunset to their favourite roosting sites. Crane Week is a celebration of these ancient mythical birds. Join them for Tablelands Crane Week: watch, learn and photograph, spread an appreciation of cranes and you will help to ensure a safe future for them in the beautiful region of Australia they call home.

Kurrimine Beach is one of the closest beaches to the Great Barrier Reef - they are so close that they can walk out to explore King Reef on very low tides. They escort a group of people out to the reef one day each month and take up to 30 guests at a time. If you would like to join them bring some shoes with you that you don't mind getting wet - reef shoes are perfect! It is approximately a 800 metre walk through thigh high water to get out to the reef and usually takes them about 30 minutes.
