The outback has always been renowned for its warm hospitality and the Kinnon and Co self-contained accommodation continues that tradition. On adjoining landscaped sites set back from the main Longreach-Ilfracombe road, and a few minutes walk from the Stockman's Hall of Fame and Qantas Founders Museum, you can choose from the unique Homestead Stables and Pioneer Slab Huts with deluxe heritage-inspired interiors or the comfortable Outback Lodges that offer great value for families or groups of friends.

All accommodation is self-contained with bathrooms, kitchenettes, air conditioning and television/DVD. The Pioneer Slab Huts and Homestead Stables share a quirky outdoor bath terrace and there is a swimming pool in the Outback Lodges area. The town of Longreach is an easy cycle or a few minutes' drive away. They can pick you up from the railway station, bus depot or airport. Shared facilities include pool, covered communal area, barbecues, laundry, luggage storage area and bike hire.

All bedding and towels are supplied and the accommodation is serviced on a weekly basis free of charge. If you need service within a shorter time-frame, they can arrange it for a small additional fee.

The 2016 Tree of Knowledge Festival is celebrating the 125 year anniversary of the Shearers' Strike in Barcaldine. An Art Competition titled, 'The Strike' sponsored by the Maritime Museum of Australia is being held with the exhibition opening on Friday 29 April at The Globe in the Galilee Gallery and is free for all to attend. Nominations are now open for the competition in the categories of any medium or genre, photographs or digital media and a junior category for under 15 years. The competition has over AUD8000 worth of cash prizes up for grabs. A cash bar will be available.

Wellshot Bush Crafts and Produce Markets specialise in fresh vegetables and fruit, home grown lettuce and herbs, seafood, meat, organic lamb, fresh speciality breads, along with many bush crafts including hand-made soap, leather goods, children's designer clothes. Music and a jumping castle is available for the children. A hot breakfast is available to purchase from 8am to noon.
