Make your base camp here at the Explorers Caravan Park in Thargomindah, just a two minute walk from town. Take it easy on this holiday and relax, stroll down to the Bulloo River, put in yabbie pots for a true outback lunch, or take a walk around the river to the Cobb and Co Crossing to see the wonderful bird life here. Perhaps have a few days' break from the roads and just watch the birds visiting the native shrubs in the park.

About 40 kilometres from Thargomindah on the bitumen road eastwards takes you to Lake Bindegolly National Park where you can amaze at the abundance of birds and stroll along the walks around the Lake.

Take a day trip along the all bitumen roads to see the historic hotels around - Noccundra, Eromanga, Quilpie and Toompine. Call in to see Thargomindah's Hydro Power Plant, the Old Hospital, Historic House, Visitor Information Centre and Library and while you are there check out the weather for a visit to the Burke and Wills "Dig Tree".

Come back each day and meet up with old and new friends and recount your adventure around the campfire, barbecue and camp kitchen.

It may not be the Melbourne Cup... but it's a little bit of silliness for a great cause!. Buy your racing Yabbies, place your bet and wait for the result..... but don't hold your breath in anticipation, this is the one time if could be fatal.... yabbies are not renowned for their speed. Come along and join in the fun and support this fundraiser of the Rural Fire Service and have a flutter on the Crawlers. Buy your own yabby (no training required); place your bets, stand back and wait to see if your thoroughbred is a winner. Enjoy a fair dinkum old fashioned Camp Oven Dinner cooked right before you once all the racing is done. Operates every Wednesday from May to September starting at 6pm. Bookings are essential for catering purposes.

Make your way to Quilpie's Bulloo Park for the Quilpie Diggers Race Club annual Station Challenge Pride of the West Race Day. The weekend kicks off on Friday with the two handed cutting and live music and bar until late. On Saturday head track side for a great day of country racing. All races feature station horses and local riders! The title "The Pride of the West" is awarded to the horse which wins the final race after four heats. Hungerford Biennial Field Day

Every second year the tiny town of Hungerford on the Queensland/New South Wales border hosts a field day with free admission and excellent camping and shower facilities on site. You can either drive, fly in on the bitumen air strip. Government departments are represented, and numerous exhibitors sell everything from chickens to 4WD's. The event is fully catered with a licensed bar and band providing night time entertainment.

The annual Cunnamulla and District Show is a great opportunity for visitors to meet and celebrate the rich agricultural heritage of the Paroo Shire. Meet local producers who showcase their produce in the form of wool, sheep, and cattle, and others who demonstrate their dog handling skills during the sheep dog trials, or their ability at riding a goat in the feral billy goat races. All the fun of the fair including side show alley, rides and food stalls, art and craft exhibitions will entertain all ages. Check out the motorbike gymkhana and the sheep shearing competition during the day or enjoy full bar and food facilities. Once the sun goes down you have the chance to grab yourself a bargain with a number of auctions taking place for the local produce on display.
