Pets Allowed:

Deshons Retreat welcomes pets, however they remain the responsibility of their owners at all times. There is a straw bale kennel available should you wish to leave your dog while visiting local attractions such as the Bunya Mountains. Dogs must remain outside and have their own bedding. There is one resident Labrador, Sheba.

Children are welcome. Deshons Retreat is set in 23 hectares of natural bush. Wildlife and birds can be seen in all seasons. Children under three years old stay free of charge.

Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition

Boondooma Dam will play host to the Yellowbelly Fishing Classic in February 2016. The lake is fishing extremely well and the 2016 event should set new records in both the long standing gilled and gutted section, as well as in the catch and release component. The annual competition will be held on 13 and 14 February 2016. The catch and release category targeting Australian Bass and Yellowbelly is open to all anglers who nominate. Cash and other prizes will be presented at the end of each of the three sessions as well as overall competition winners at the conclusion of the event. Please join them at Lake Boondooma for a family weekend of fishing and camping.

Wine and Food in the Park

The annual South Burnett Wine & Food In The Park Festival will be held at Memorial Park in Kingaroy right in the heart of Queensland's newest wine region from 12:00 noon to 8:30pm. As usual, this year's Festival will feature a h-u-g-e line-up of live entertainment all through the day and into the night. At this year's Wine & Food In The Park you can: sample great wines from the South Burnett's leading multi award winning wineries, be entertained by 8 non-stop hours of live music from some of Australia's top music acts, be amused by incredible street entertainers or... try any of the wide variety of foods available on-site.

Wondai Autumn Garden Expo

Not just an event, it's a destination! The 23rd Wondai Autumn Garden Expo showcases all that is exciting about gardening in southern inland Queensland. With a strong focus on the core business of Horticulture, the quality and variety of stalls continues to delight the organisers and visitors. The South Burnett Orchid Society's Annual Show will be held in conjunction on Saturday in the Wondai RSL Hall, with a delightful display of these beautiful plants, supported by stalls specialising in al things to do with orchid growing. The Wondai Regional Art Gallery April showing opens on the first Friday in April and features competitions sponsored by Wondai Garden Expo. The Horticultural Show and Display in the pavilion always draw lots of admirers for the variety and quality of exhibits. Entertainment and a series of guest speakers will be present on both days.

Burrandowan Picnic Races

The first race begins at 1pm, you will have already made new friends and set up your position for the day with old ones. They have a full 5 race program with 2 state betting and a full bookies ring. Like any great race day, they have plenty off the track entertainment as well - when you have tired of people watching (keep your eyes peeled for the sporting celebs who come every year), and take a stroll to watch "The Fashion of the Field" competition.

Heritage Nanango Country Muster

Nanango Show Society holds its Annual Country Muster featuring Traditional Australian Country Music on the second weekend in September. It's four days full of country music, poetry, gospel and all those things that make the Australian Bush Lifestyle great. The committee prides itself on the choice of artists as well as the variety from year to year. In the days leading up to the festival you are entertained by "Walk Up Artists" who are itching to showcase their talent. The festival was foundered in 2003 to provide an event that encourages tourists to stop and experience the warm country hospitality of Nanango and the South Burnett. So Bring your caravan, tent, ute, or whatever you have and settle in for the celebrations of this traditional style of music. Full camping facilities available from the Monday 1 September (bookings essential). Plenty of hot showers and toilets available. A real bush atmosphere.
