The CIAF 2015 cultural festivities welcomed more visitors than ever before - 50,000 people attended across all venues - enjoying the diversity of Far North Queensland Indigenous culture and taking the chance to attend and buy the latest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island art from across Queensland, at the very first CIAF Art Market. The now famous CIAF daily program offers dance and music performances, artist and industry talks, art workshops and film screenings. Cairns cultural venues offer a variety of art form events and gallery exhibitions, creating a celebratory feeling citywide.

The Cairns Tropical Writers Festival is held in Cairns, North Queensland. It is the heart of literature in the tropics. The program will be launched sometime in 2016. Some of the highlights are: "Snap Up a Local" bookstore where you can meet authors, attend book launches and purchase books written by locally based writers. The Cairns Tropical Writers Festival brings together stories from the region and Australian authors who have published nationally and internationally. Featured authors, regional writers, Public Arenas and exciting workshop programs are designed to ensure there is something for everyone. The blend is irresistible, stamping an indelible sense of place on visitors, and the communities involved. It is all about Readers Writing and Writers Reading.

Inkfest is a multi-event festival of arts in the print media held tropical Cairns. The biennial event is organised by Inkmasters Cairns Inc a not-for-profit arts organisation established in 2011. Inkmasters aims to raise the profile of printmaking as an art form and promote Cairns as a centre of prinkmaking excellence. The festival culminates in selected prints from regional, national and international artists being displayed in the Inkmasters Print Exhibition at the Tanks Arts Centre. Other activities attached to Inkfest include artists-in-residence, artist talks, workshops, The BIG Print Event and a number of community engagement events. Inkfest 2016 will be the third festival held by Inkmasters and will prove to be the biggest and best to date.

The Dynamic in a Dress Running Festival is a female-focused event that celebrates female runners, their strength and their ability to use running as a means to connect with one another. The festival hosts a half marathon and 10 kilometre race on the Sunday and a 5 kilometre and Family Fun Run on the Saturday afternoon. A mocktails/pamper session is planned for the Friday night and a pasta party for the Saturday night. The entry fee includes a 12-week training program and group training sessions from 13 January. Age restrictions apply to the races. The event supports a charity. Early Bird entries end at 9.00pm on 3 January. Late Fees apply from 9.00pm, 23 March.

Cardiac Challenge

The Mount Franklin Cardiac Challenge is a three day camping and recreational cycle ride in the September school holidays. The route includes some of the most stunning scenery in the Wet Tropics, Dry Tropics and World Heritage National Parks of Far North Queensland starting in Cairns and progressing inland through the Kuranda range, Speewah, Mareeba, Mt Molloy, Mt Carbine, the Desailey range, Lakeland and finishing in Cooktown. Each year the Cardiac Challenge mission is to fundraise for the FNQ Hospital Foundation with the purchase of specialised equipment for improved cardiac care services for Far North Queensland.

UMI Arts' annual event is a free, community celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, primarily from the Far North Queensland region. Starting in the afternoon and going through until the evening, visitors can enjoy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancing, music, storytelling and performance by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of the Far North Queensland region. There will also be an array of Indigenous art and craft market stalls where visitors can meet, talk to and learn about each item, from the Indigenous cultural practitioner or craftsperson who has made each piece. Celebrate the talent and diversity of the Indigenous people from Far North Queensland at UMI Arts Big Talk One Fire Indigenous Cultural Festival. This is a free, family-friendly event with all welcome! This event is 100 per cent drug and alcohol free.
