From where ever you are, come and join Cairns Indigenous Art Fair in 2017, and immerse yourself in a CIAF experience of your own. The CIAF 2016 cultural festivities welcomed more visitors than ever before - 50,000 people attended across all venues - enjoying the diversity of Far North Queensland Indigenous culture and taking the chance to attend and buy the latest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island art from across Queensland, at the very first CIAF Art Market. The now famous CIAF daily program offers dance and music performances, artist and industry talks, art workshops and film screenings. Cairns cultural venues offer a variety of art form events and gallery exhibitions, creating a celebratory feeling citywide.

MS Swimathon - Cairns

The Woree Aquatic Centre will host the second last MS Swimathon event of the season to raise vital funds to help people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). It doesn't matter if you can do 100 fast laps or doggy paddle one, everyone can join in, have fun and support people living with MS - an incurable disease which affects a person's central nervous system. Designed as a relay event, teams must have one swimmer in the water at all times throughout the entire 12 hour event period. Participants can raise donations by asking for a one off donation from friends and family or being sponsored based on the number of laps they can do. Registrations open 8 February, so get involved to help support those individuals living with MS and their families.

Yarrabah Band Festival

Now in its fourth year, Yarrabah Band Festival, presented by Queensland Music Festival, will showcase a stellar line-up of artists (yet to be announced) including the Yarrabah Brass Band. Bring a blanket, chair or cushion and enjoy an evening of music by the sea. Food and local artwork will be available for purchase. This is a drug and alcohol free event.

The Dynamic in a Dress Running Festival is a female-focused event that celebrates female runners, their strength and their ability to use running as a means to connect with one another. The festival hosts a half marathon and 10 kilometre race on the Sunday and a 5 kilometre and Family Fun Run on the Saturday afternoon. A mocktails/pamper session is planned for the Friday night and a pasta party for the Saturday night. The entry fee includes a 12-week training program and group training sessions from 13 January. Age restrictions apply to the races. The event supports a charity. Early Bird entries end at 9.00pm on 3 January. Late Fees apply from 9.00pm, 23 March.

Cardiac Challenge

The Mount Franklin Cardiac Challenge is a three day camping and recreational cycle ride in the September school holidays. The route includes some of the most stunning scenery in the Wet Tropics, Dry Tropics and World Heritage National Parks of Far North Queensland starting in Cairns and progressing inland through the Kuranda range, Speewah, Mareeba, Mt Molloy, Mt Carbine, the Desailey range, Lakeland and finishing in Cooktown. Each year the Cardiac Challenge mission is to fundraise for the FNQ Hospital Foundation with the purchase of specialised equipment for improved cardiac care services for Far North Queensland.

Crocodile Trophy

The Crocodile Trophy (UCI S1) is the oldest Mountain Bike (MTB) stage race in the world and has its home in the heart of one of the most beautiful holiday destinations on earth: Tropical North Queensland in Australia. The race stages offer the biggest variety of mountain bike trails - eight days from the jungle in Cairns to the Atherton Tableland with bush singletracks into the unique Australian Outback. Finish on the breath-takingly beautiful Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas. Rugby League World Cup 2017

Rugby League World Cup 2017 – Cairns to host three pool matches. In 2017, the best players and teams from around the globe will descend on Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea for the Rugby League World Cup. The tournament will see 14 teams play 28 games over five weeks from 27 October until 2 December 2017 – all hoping to be crowned world cup winners, in what is the pinnacle event in international Rugby League. Barlow Park in Cairns will host three pool matches in what is set to be the biggest sporting event in Australia during 2017. Starting on 29 October with a Sunday double header, the action will continue in a round 3 pool match on Saturday, 11 November. Make sure you don’t miss out on the opportunity to be at the Rugby League World Cup 2017 in Cairns.
