Celebrate Chinese New Year in Cairns with a tropical street festival with ties back to traditional Chinese culture and the excitement of Chinese Lions, Dragons and Fire Crackers. The cairns Airport Chinese New Year Street Festival is held annually at the Historic Cairns Chinatown in Grafton Street Cairns. The event showcases local Asian cultures and highlights the significance of Chinese settlement in Cairns.

MS Swimathon - Cairns

The Woree Aquatic Centre will host the second last MS Swimathon event of the season to raise vital funds to help people living with multiple sclerosis (MS). It doesn't matter if you can do 100 fast laps or doggy paddle one, everyone can join in, have fun and support people living with MS - an incurable disease which affects a person's central nervous system. Designed as a relay event, teams must have one swimmer in the water at all times throughout the entire 12 hour event period. Participants can raise donations by asking for a one off donation from friends and family or being sponsored based on the number of laps they can do. Registrations open 8 February, so get involved to help support those individuals living with MS and their families.

Inkmasters Print Exhibition

Inkfest is a multi-event festival of arts in the print media held tropical Cairns. The biennial event is organised by Inkmasters Cairns Inc a not-for-profit arts organisation established in 2011. Inkmasters aims to raise the profile of printmaking as an art form and promote Cairns as a centre of prinkmaking excellence. The festival culminates in selected prints from regional, national and international artists being displayed in the Inkmasters Print Exhibition at the Tanks Arts Centre. Other activities attached to Inkfest include artists-in-residence, artist talks, workshops, The BIG Print Event and a number of community engagement events. Inkfest 2016 will be the third festival held by Inkmasters and will prove to be the biggest and best to date.

Cairns Airport Adventure Festival

Set in one of the world's most iconic tropical locations, the 2016 Cairns Airport Adventure Festival will take place in June 2016. The festival features an event for everyone, including; Flight Centre Active Travel Ironman 70.3 Cairns, Coral Coast 5150 Triathlon, RRR Mountain Bike Challenge, Great Barrier Reef Ocean Challenge, Quicksilver Reef Swim - Green Island, The Cairns Post Bright Night Run and McDonalds Ironkids Cairns - a triathlon especially for the juniors of the sport! The pinnacle event of the festival is 'Cairns Airport Ironman Cairns' that features a 3.8 kilometre swim, a 180 kilometre bike leg that travels one of the most scenic coastal roads in Australia towards Port Douglas and a 42.2 kilometre run that includes the Cairns Esplanade before finishing in the heart of Cairns.

As final harmonies of the CIAF closing ceremony fade to memory for another year, the momentum continues. The CIAF team is already busy and announces dates for next year's event. The CIAF 2015 cultural festivities welcomed more visitors than ever before - 50,000 attended - enjoying the diversity of Far North Queensland Indigenous culture, taking the chance to attend and buy the latest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island art from across Queensland, at the very first CIAF Art Market. The now famous CIAF daily program offered dance and music performance, artist and industry talks, art workshops and film screenings. Cairns cultural venues offered a variety of art form events and gallery exhibitions, creating a celebratory feeling citywide. From where ever you are, come and join them in 2016, and immerse yourself in a CIAF experience of your own.
